Please review the following job description:
Provide independent and reliable support at multiple levels for actuarial projects, led by more senior team members. Can complete a clearly defined portion of a larger project. Require very little supervision and often supervise the tasks of other, more junior team members. Will have frequent contact with clients by phone regarding data requests and basic questions, but most consulting communication will be led by actuarial consultants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
Responsible for worksheet applications and programming at multiple levels of difficulty, plus technical reviews of peer work. Examples include:
Basic Worksheets – loss summaries, loss stratifications, loss comparisons, premium allocations, loss allocations, and other applications;
Moderate Worksheets – with supervision, prepare worksheets for reserving, risk retention, development analysis, and diagnostic analyses.
Basic Programming – automating the production of graphs, narratives, and worksheets, and creating new macros and formulas in Excel;
Moderate Programming – designing and implementing VBA programs in Excel to add innovation, accuracy, and efficiency to our work products; and
Technical Reviews – letters, narratives, worksheets, competitors’ work products, etc.
Responsible for training of others and oversight of certain team tasks designed to maintain and enhance the quality and efficiency of basic actuarial processes, including specific claim databases, actuarial parameter databases, and other benchmarks.
Responsible for significant portions of larger projects, such that the output from such portions becomes the input to another phase of the project.

Expected to work independently, while concurrently managing multiple projects and multiple consultants. This juggling of tasks will occasionally be a challenge
Expected to produce reliable work products by maintaining a quality work process, understanding and questioning the logic of basic computations, identifying and solving potential data problems, and establishing and maintaining a high standard for validating one’s work. Be an example for other, more junior team members
Moderate math and computing skills are required
Prior experience of four years in an actuarial support role is required
Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel is required
Experience with Word and PowerPoint is required
Basic programming experience is required
Ability to travel, occasionally overnight
Actuarial exams are desired
Typically, AA2 would have passed 3 to 4 actuarial exams, but exams are not required
