The Senior Information Engineer supports the Business Intelligence (BI) Center of Excellence (COE) Team through development of data visualization and BI solutions, prototyping and demonstrating analytics capabilities, leading BI tool consultations, and supporting Truist’s Enterprise BI platforms: MicroStrategy, Tableau and Power BI.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches emerging technologies, performs extensive functional and technical analysis on new and existing reporting capabilities, and prototypes next-generation tools in Truist environment for feasibility and functionality

  • Leads Tableau, MicroStrategy & Power BI consults through data and business problem assessment and tailored solution creation

  • Supports Merger by converting legacy Cognos and QlikView reports and dashboards to MicroStrategy, Power BI and Tableau

  • Interviews Line of Business partners to understand analytics needs, identify and resolve tool gaps, provide architectural expertise on application integration, and provide systems and process design recommendations in a timely manner based on IT strategy

  • Creates sample data sets, report mockups, test cases, and success criteria for tool Proofs-of-Concept (POCs), documents features and execution steps, and presents key findings and tool recommendations

  • Performs data wrangling, ETL, data validation, data modeling and functional testing for custom data solutions

  • Performs ad-hoc tool consultations by trouble-shooting metric calculation, report errors, data connection setup and data integration issues, and by providing data visualization guidance and tailored tool demonstrations

  • Leads UX and UI consults through user story and wireframe creation, dashboard re-design and theme and template application

  • Enables tool, data and web integration through research, development and deployment of custom APIs and extensions

  • Leads larger, more complex projects with significant risk and resource requirements and works under minimal supervision

  • Partners with Engagement to deliver tool training, update Sharepoint and newsletters, and lead tool Doctors Hours

  • Partners with Architects on code reviews, development standards, job and security setup, and escalated operational support

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Solid understanding of principles, practices, theories, and/or methodologies associated with the professional discipline

  • Specialized knowledge of SQL, relational databases, ETL/ELT architecture and concepts, data integration concepts, big data concepts and reporting tools

  • Previous experience in managing and planning projects and ability to communicate complex information

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10–15 years experience in developing reports, dashboards and data models in BI tools such as MicroStrategy, Tableau, Power BI, QlikView, Qlik Sense, Cognos, SSRS, Business Objects

  • 5-10 years experience as a Platform Architect supporting Tableau, Power BI and/or MicroStrategy infrastructure and operations

  • Knowledgeable in data wrangling, preparation and automation tools such as SAS, Trifacta and Alteryx, Informatica

  • Ability to successfully design, document and develop custom BI and data integration solutions

  • Expert in reporting architecture, software design principles and development life cycle

  • Strong analytical, trouble-shooting, problem-solving, presentation, verbal and written communication skills
