Truist seeks an experienced attorney to join its Legal Department to support its leading middle market investment banking business, Truist Securities. The position is based in either Truist’s Charlotte headquarters or Truist Securities’ Atlanta head office.

The successful candidate will join a team of attorneys providing legal support for Truist Securities’ Sales & Trading/Derivatives businesses. The role will provide an excellent opportunity for a lawyer to play a leading role in providing legal support for these businesses.

The support of Truist Securities’ Sales & Trading and Derivatives business involves advising a wide variety of Truist stakeholders including the various fixed income and equity Sales & Trading businesses, commodity, equity, foreign exchange, and rate derivatives marketing teams, risk functions as well as the master agreement negotiation and collateral management teams. Legal services will include: (i) drafting, reviewing and negotiating master agreements and other trading contracts, (ii) undertaking legal research and analysis, (iii) advising on new product development, and (iv) drafting and/or reviewing internal policies and risk management procedures.


Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing.

  • 12years of post-bar experience in a law firm, government, and/or corporate settings.

  • A minimum of 5 years legal derivatives transactional and related regulatory experience in a large law firm environment or corporate legal department (e.g., ISDA documentation, Commodities Exchange Act/CFTC rules and Securities Act of 1933.

  • Possess effective personnel management skills and demonstrates emotional intelligence.

  • Possess superior written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize matters, utilize time management skills, and move between matters fluidly.

  • Ability to handle a heavy workload, manage stress effectively and meet critical deadlines.

  • Able to work autonomously without close supervision.

  • Team-oriented mentality and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Securities Exchange Act of 1934/SEC rules); legal securities trading experience is beneficial

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to balance business needs with legal risks.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with particular emphasis on contract drafting abilities.

  • Readiness to develop legal skills and expand legal knowledge into new substantive areas of the law.

  • Experience or related training in the financial services industry or a related legal practice area, with demonstrated specialization.

  • Experience in a corporate legal department having successfully held positions of advancing responsibility.

  • An educational or career focus on business, regulatory compliance or finance.

  • Comfortable working in the environment of a large, complex corporation focused on delivering results and managing expenses.
