Please review the following job description:

This position leads the calculation of Truist’s Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, excluding Category 15 Financed Emissions. The position leads internal and external partners in obtaining data, conducting and/or overseeing the calculations, obtaining 3rd party verification, completing internal approvals and processes, managing risk, and implementing continuous improvement throughout all phases of the process.

*Role can be located in one of the office locations (Charlotte, Atlanta or Richmond, VA) provided in posting and will be 4 days weekly office centric. *

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  1. Lead internal and external partners in calculating Truist’s Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, especially Categories 1 (Purchased Goods & Services), 2 (Capital Goods), 3 (Fuel and Energy-related Emissions), 5 (Waste in Operations), 6 (Business Travel), 7 (Employee Commuting) and 8 (Upstream Leased Assets).

  2. Collaborate with internal partners (e.g., Sourcing, Corporate Real Estate & Workplace, Corporate Travel, Human Resources, ESG Data Team) to identify and leverage internal and external data sources to calculate Scope 3 emissions

  3. Drive continuous improvement of data completeness, data quality, processes, and integration/automation across internal and external partners.

  4. Prepare Scope 3 GHG information (excluding Category 15) for internal and external reporting needs, including the ESG/CSR reporting, CDP, TCFD, and other surveys.

  5. Manage internal risk, controls, and validation processes and 3rd party verification.

  6. Prepare and maintain documentation of all Scope 3 GHG calculation processes for internal and external review.

  7. In coordination with the Senior Director (Environmental Sustainability), and Environmental Sustainability team, support collaborative efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions. This will require working with internal and external partners to identify and raise awareness of GHG reduction opportunities, influence the sourcing process and KPIs, and work with suppliers to reduce Scope 3 emissions.

  8. In coordination with the Senior Director (Environmental Sustainability), and Environmental Sustainability team, support efforts to identify and conduct due diligence on carbon offset strategies that can reduce Scope 3 emissions while collecting information needed to accurately calculate Scope 3 GHG emissions and fulfill items 3-6 above.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  2. 2+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  3. Solid understanding of greenhouse gas calculation methodologies and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

  4. Proven abilities in Excel

  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interpret and explain complex information to a range of audiences. Ability to influence others to adopt a new perspective and handle interpersonal issues with tact and diplomacy.

  6. Ability to exercise judgment and sophisticated skills in solving complex technical, operational, and organizational challenges in the context of business objectives and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of landscape of voluntary GHG disclosure standards and the expectation of mandatory GHG disclosures in the future.

  2. Previous experience in banking, with specific emphasis on reporting, business intelligence, systems, technology, data, risk, compliance or related areas

  3. Relevant professional or technical certifications

  4. Experience with integrating data into and leveraging enterprise data systems

  5. Experience with other programming languages and tools (e.g., Python, SQL, SAS, Qlik, Tableau)
