Highly experienced tax subject matter expert specific to partnerships in the financial services industry and thought leader role with comprehensive knowledge within the discipline, crossing multiple areas of specialization. Leads a team of tax professionals and 3rd party tax specialists focusing on long-term operational performance of the Tax Department.

Please note: This role is located in Charlotte NC. (not a remote role)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Manage operations of various aspects of the Corporate Tax Department.

  • Lead large, diverse teams to accomplish departmental and corporate objectives. Set priorities for the Tax department regarding the execution of recurring work and the implementation of initiatives and strategies.

  • Apply complete understanding of relevant tax law and tax and regulatory accounting principles and concepts and ability to concisely communicate to non-tax professionals and senior leadership.

  • Successfully navigate organizational challenges leveraging strong and broad relationships to ensure that necessary resources are obtained from across the enterprise.

  • Oversee the research and analysis of complex tax issues, the documentation of those issues, and the communication of conclusions to senior management.

  • Build strong relationships and engage with senior leaders across the enterprise to ensure that transactions and business objectives are executed in a tax-efficient manner.

  • Identify, communicate, and influence the implementation of tax planning opportunities across the enterprise.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

  • 14+ years of professional experience including Big 4 or large corporate tax experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • 10+ years of reviewing complex tax returns and tax return submission responsibility.

  • Previous experience in mergers and acquisitions, including deal origination, due diligence, transaction structuring, and integration planning.

  • Experience in leading large teams and initiatives.

  • Head of tax or equivalent experience at a mid-sized company, preferably a partnership structure

  • Ability to leverage technical and business experience to create an environment that fosters strategic thinking and high-quality work product.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of professional experience including Big 4 or large corporate tax experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Financial Services Experience

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

  • Comprehensive and broad knowledge within the tax discipline.

  • Ability to read, interpret, write, and review the tax portion of financial statements.

  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong delegation skills.
