Regular or Temporary: Regular Language Fluency: English (Required) Work Shift: 1st shift (United States of America) Please review the following job description: Responsible for the evaluation of life insurance risks for the purpose of determining the best product/premium solution through the review of life insurance files, client medical records, financial history, and information provided by agents and/or brokers. Typically handles larger, more complex cases. Cases managed will be for all ages and face amounts. Assists more senior underwriters on high profile cases. Researches additional, complex insurance options as needed. Acts as a partner with sales and producers to formulate the best solution for the proposed insured. Negotiates to secure the most competitive offer for placement of policy with the appropriate carrier. Handles high profile projects and may lead some project teams. Position will be work from home remote. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Assesses risk and negotiates cases with producers (RS, IS, FA, etc.) and carriers through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information pertinent to the decision 2. Works with producers (RS, IS, FA, etc.) to determine appropriate carrier based on proposed insured’s risk prior to and/or during the insurance application process 3. Prepares or reviews underwriting summaries to include medical and non-medical information (i.e., abnormal lab results, EKG interpretation, family history, blood pressure, weight, aviation, avocation, travel, etc.) for carrier review 4. Develop and manage relationships with producers, carrier underwriters and team members and acts as a resource for underwriting questions or issues 5. Maintain current knowledge of carrier underwriting guidelines, insurance products, brokerage market, and re-insurance market 6. Provides on-going underwriting training to junior staff underwriters 7. Carries a caseload of 150 - 200 cases and accomplishes 25 - 35 image reviews per week with a 48 hour turnaround time Required Skills and Competencies: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Strong knowledge of carrier strengths 9. Ability to identify underwriting strengths particularly on large, more complex or elderly cases 10. Ability to mentor and educate underwriters with less experience 11. Ability to present sales ideas to agents depending on the rating 12. Ability to work with diversified group of home office underwriters, sales, and agents to provide the best customer service 13. Previous experience as an Underwriter or equivalent experience 14.
