Job Description Summary:

Support the strategic direction of the Pharmacy Benefit Practice at McGriff. As part of the National Employee Benefits Practice team, work closely with senior members of other specialty practices within McGriff to serve as a strategic partner to our Market Leaders, Producers, and Client Management teams. In addition to supporting strategic initiatives of the Pharmacy practice, be responsible for consultative support, clinical analysis, guidance, and recommendations for existing clients and new business opportunities.


Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  1. Drive sales and revenue growth by expanding current client relationships and new client opportunities in the upper-mid and large employer market space. Do this through presentation and one-on-one consultation in conjunction with producers and consultants, with a priority on in-person, face-to-face, and virtual client interaction.

  2. Participate in the development and communication of strategic and tactical pharmacy practice initiatives in a way which allows clients to understand the impacts to their strategy and membership.

  3. At the direction of the Practice Leader, drive strategic business initiatives to grow the practice including revenue, expenses, staffing, tools and resources required to be successful.

  4. Manage the pharmacy benefit proposal process including contract and pricing review, clinical program review and finalist meeting facilitation.

  5. Provide proactive industry-related pharmacy communications and educational content to internal staff, external clients, and prospects via white papers, webinars, and seminars.

  6. Provide clients with effective pharmacy consulting and appropriate cost saving solutions.

  7. Provide account teams, clients, and prospects with detailed pharmacy analysis in collaboration with partners and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM).

  8. Provide education and resources to producers and account teams with regard to pharmacy trends and solutions.

  9. Represent the pharmacy benefit practice in various strategic business initiatives as appropriate, at the direction of the Pharmacy Practice Leader.

  10. Collaborate with other specialty practice team members on cross-functional solutions, initiatives, and projects.


Required Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Bachelor’s degree with proven pharmacy benefit consulting expertise

  2. Ten years of experience in the Employee Benefits and/or PBM industry, working directly with large clients and employee benefits consultants

  3. Four years of clinical consulting experience in the PBM marketplace with established relationships with PBMs and other pharmacy vendors

  4. Comprehensive knowledge of both current and emerging client-focused pharmacy solutions

  5. Proven ability to exceed expectations and help producers achieve sales goals

  6. Excellent presentation and communication skills

  7. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  8. Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment

  9. Self-motivated with a strong “can do” attitude

  10. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products

  11. Ability to travel, including overnight

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree(s), such as Pharmacy, PharmD, RPh or Actuarial designation

  2. Insurance industry certifications in addition to necessary license(s)

  3. Significant experience leading teams and/or projects
