Has responsibility for underwriting, structuring and documenting Middle Market client transactions and managing the credit risk of assigned portfolio. Accountable for monitoring performance and trends, proactively defining client solutions, identifying and developing remediation and articulating proactive independent recommendations. Support Portfolio Manager with researching and qualifying prospects, modeling and sensitivity analysis, and underwriting new opportunities. Active role in workflow management and portfolio metric meetings and objectives. Support the onboarding and ongoing coaching, mentoring, and development of new teammates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for developing credit underwriting and structuring on new money, renewals and reviews, making independent recommendations based on assigned components of the deal. Acts as author and creates initial view of risk based on experience and skills. 40% Works independently and with Portfolio Manager researching and qualifying prospects and underwriting new opportunities. Synthesizes vast amounts of data to formulate assumptions for financial models based on client profile, industry dynamics, cost pressures, etc. related to more complex deals in order to assess financial wherewithal to repay. 20% Performs majority of industry/sector research with the help of analyst team and synthesizes the information for UWPMs or TLs. 20% Mentors and may coach lower level Commercial Portfolio Analyst and other junior talent. Assists in workflow management and portfolio management metrics objectives. 20% Span of Control (include # direct reports): Span of control includes no direct reports, but encompasses expectation of coaching and mentoring of junior teammates. Is expected to initiate and drive regular communication with Clients, Portfolio Management teammates, Relationship Managers, Credit Risk Managers, Credit Review partners, Technology, and other internal and external audit and examiner functions. Decision-Making and Autonomy: Teammates in this role are charged with providing independent current and forward looking risk view on clients within the assigned clients/prospects and portfolio. They author independent risk recommendations including, but not limited to; risk rating, compliance, underwriting, which are reviewed and coaching provided as needed. Depending on the level of the deal, the recommendation is finally approved by ultimate risk approval officer. Problem Complexity: Moderate to Complex Leadership / Influencing / Negotiating / Persuading: Yes, teammates in this position are required to develop an independent point of view and provide recommendations to appropriate decision makers. Furthermore, they are expected to mentor Analysts and manage their workflow. Project or Program Management: Yes. This position runs ad hoc projects generally associated with regulatory, risk, and compliance issues. Nature and Area of Impact, including Risk: This position could impact/touch several elements of risk faced by the Bank. Key risk drivers are credit and operational.
