Please review the following job description:

Manage a team of leaders responsible for the credit adjudication, credit policy, portfolio management, loss forecast, and overall credit processes for the assigned Consumer Credit horizontal domain or business unit within the Consumer Credit and Policy Management team.

Consumer Credit Risk and Policy Management, provides strategic leadership, management and integration within Truist by providing expertise/membership in various key credit functions/committees (Asset Quality meetings, Business Unit Risk Committees, Consumer Credit Working Group, Truist Risk Appetite framework), Consumer concentration risk and exceptions portfolio targets, and Consumer default management and problem asset strategies and targets, and leadership on issues management and guiding teams to respond and remediate regulatory issues and audits.

Span of control based on domain area assigned ranging from an individual contributor with indirect leadership responsibilities or direct leadership responsibilities for teammates. Credit exposures in scope could include Direct to Consumer, Retail Small Business, BankCard, Mortgage, Consumer Wealth Management, National Consumer Finance & Payments, Auto (prime and sub-prime lending) Marine, and Recreational Vehicle Lending.

The Consumer Credit Risk Programs work with the business units, providing independent risk challenge and oversight, of credit risk activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide independent leadership and strategic direction for complex multi-product consumer credit horizontal domains or business units to ensure the long-term objectives are appropriately balanced among quality, growth, and profitability, and ; also monitors loan-pricing, collections, and default management strategies to maximize the performance of the overall loan portfolio.

  2. Single point of contact for the assigned consumer credit business unit adjudication processes including adjudication of exception approvals, portfolio acquisitions, and complex partnership arrangements.

  3. Provide direct oversight to team on development and maintenance of consumer loan policies and procedures, including high standards for credit quality and guidelines around credit limits, to ensure credit is extended appropriately within consumer business units.

  4. Lead a team that provides oversight and effective challenge to the first line of defense on the development of new and existing consumer lending products for clients, ensuring profitability for the business units. Develop tools and metrics to identify 'deviations from the norm" or potentially fast growing high-risk segments in the consumer portfolio.

  5. Support consumer merger activity through the development and execution of effective merger integration plans.

  6. Lead the integration of risk and portfolio management best practices across horizontally and by consumer product lines ensuring returns are optimized through economic credit cycles.

  7. Provide direct oversight to team on the establishment, analysis, and maintenance of concentration limits, exceptions, product mix/pricing, delinquency and loss trending, product optimization, originations, and portfolio performance targets by consumer business.

  8. Provide direct oversight to team to ensure integrity in the establishment, updating and maintenance of the automated decision engines and custom credit models. Provide independent leadership in the development of consumer portfolio risk-based pricing models and loan loss models involving logistic regression and other statistical techniques and emerging issues.

  9. Lead a team that provides periodic loan review plans for the consumer loan portfolio by working with Credit Risk Review.

  10. Assist in the effective challenge of default management strategies including collections, repossessions, deferrals, extensions, re-ages, and other modifications

  11. Prepare and deliver committee presentations for senior and executive level members to take immediate action driven by the recommendation

  12. Serve as a key contact for Consumer Credit with third party assurance providers e.g. Federal and State Regulatory agencies, Credit Risk Review and Internal Audit. Establish management and administrative procedures for consumer portfolios to ensure adherence to regulatory credit policies. Engage in credit risk review and internal audits performed against consumer credit either horizontally or by business unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business or equivalent education and related training.

  2. 15 years of credit related experience including complex lending structures, documentation skills, modeling skills and problem loan experience

  3. 15 plus years of related experience, including consumer, small business, credit card, mortgage and/or wealth

  4. Consumer risk and regulatory knowledge

  5. Superior ability to think strategically, multi-task, and drive change

  6. Superior quantitative, governance and analytic abilities

  7. Strong decision making capability

  8. Strong leadership, partnership and management skills

  9. Demonstrated excellent problem solving

  10. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 20 plus years credit related experience, including 5+ years of default management and/or collections experience

  2. Master's degree in business administration, finance or accounting

  3. Graduate of industry banking school(s)

  4. Serves as a member or in a leadership position with an industry professional association.
